12/17 Physics class and homework due 1/6

Hi folks, First off, happy holidays everyone!!!!  I hope all your events are wonderful, warm and safe. In class today, we got into a new concept of free body diagrams. Free body diagrams help to analyze the different forces on objects in order to determine the net force and acceleration of those objects. I'm taking us a little deeper than the book goes on this subject so homework this week is to read the following web pages http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/newtlaws/Lesson-2/Drawing-Free-Body-Diagrams http://www.physicsclassroom.com/class/newtlaws/Lesson-2/Determining-the-Net-Force I would highly recommend taking a look at the problems and the solutions on each one of these pages. Also, do the interactives on this page http://www.physicsclassroom.com/Physics-Interactives/Newtons-Laws/Free-Body-Diagrams/Free-Body-Diagram-Interactive . The page is a little clumsy, but with a bit of patience hopefully you'll get the hang of it. When you get the answer, write down th...

Outside a bit for Physics today

Hi folks, If we have time, I'd like to spend a little of it outside today so please dress ready to be outside for about 20 minutes or so. See you soon! Best, Jim Mueller (919) 907-3217

Physics Class is CANCELLED

Hi foks, Just checked the weather and there is a winter storm warning until 7PM tomorrow.  Due to that and input from several families I think it would be safer to cancel class tomorrow.   Enjoy the snow if you can!  See you all next week. Best, Jim Mueller (919) 907-3217

Physics Class tomorrow??

Hi folks, Well, we are in another NC weather mess.  I've cancelled my morning class but I'm hoping that maybe the rain will wash away enough snow to make things passable by tomorrow afternoon.   Please feel free to let me know how you feel about your ability to make it to class tomorrow when you get a chance. I'll make the final call tomorrow afternoon based on weather and your responses. Be safe and warm! Best, Jim Mueller (919) 907-3217

12/3 Physics Class Recording - Newton's second law

12/3 Physics Class and homework due 12/10

Hi folks, We spent some more time getting to know Newton's Second Law today. To "get our hands on" the concept we went outside and saw how Newton's second law applied to pulling a wagon. We put more and more mass into the wagon (0, 1 and 2 students) and saw that as we increased the mass the acceleration went down. Homework due next week is: Read pages 59 - 70 in the text book Do Review Questions 1 - 18 on page 71 and 72 Do Plug and Chug questions 1 - 5 on page 72
