1/28 Physics Class update and homework due 2/5

Hi folks, Today we took a look at the concept of impulse.  Impulse is what causes momentum to change.  We also did a lab today where we found out how much impulse a device imparted on a Hot Wheels car.   Also for homework this week is a scavenger hunt.  I want you to find  two examples  of  all  the concepts written below.  So 14 pictures in total. Rules: They must all be different.    They must all be photos you have taken with a camera  (not images from the internet). They can be things that you just come across or you can set up situations that exemplify the concept. Write a sentence for each one indicating why that photo is an example. Videos are allowed if you wish. You can print out the photos to hand in or you can email them to me. 1.  Newton's First Law 2.  Newton's Second Law 3.  Newton's Third Law 4.  Momentum 5.  Impulse 6.  Acceleration 7. Inertia Also, answer the following questions re...

1/21 Physics Class and homework due 1/28

Hi folks, Today we spent a good amount of time going over  conservation of momentum problems.  These tend to be one of the tougher problems of the year. For homework this week I'd like to you tackle the problems in the enclosed .pdf.   The answers are included so be sure to check yourself.   Also point your trusty web browser to  this page.    Underneath the simulation you'll see links for Exercise1, Exercise 2 and Exercise 3.  Please do all three exercises.  (They are pretty quick.)  Occasionally these pages seem to have some issues with certain browsers so if this doesn't work for you try a different browser.  I use Chrome and it works well for me.

1/14 Physics update and homework due 1/21

Hi folks, Today we spent time with the concept of momentum.  We discussed what it is and we also discussed the law of conservation of momentum.  Lastly we did a lab where the students measured the momentum of a ball before and after collision.   For next week's quiz, be ready for some momentum problems and those free body problems as well.  Be sure you know how to find the mass of an object from the fgrav like we did in class today.   Anything from old quizzes is always possible so be sure to take a look at those. For homework this week: Read pages 86 - 99 Do questions 1 - 18 on pages 100 and 101 Also, answer these questions relating to today's lab. 1.  What did you do to find the momentum of the spheres? 2.  When you found the velocity of a sphere, why did you have to multiply it by 2? 3.  If both spheres had a mass of 45g and ball 1 had a velocity of 1.8 m/s what SHOULD the velocity of ball 2 be? 4.  If ball 1 had a mass of 40g and  a ...

Hi folks, Today we covered Newton's 3rd law which is one of the tougher laws to really fully understand. For homework this week read pages 74 to 82.   Do Questions 1 - 18 Also, solve the problem below. .
